We’re ready!! Let us depart this winter and all that has gone with it and enter Spring and it’s gentle promise of something better.

If nothing else the return to brights will act as a pick-me-up. Pinks, blues and purples will be evident throughout the Spring collections.

I suggest raiding through last years clothes in your wardrobe and giving yourself a mini wardrobe plan, a spring plan, if you will.

Put a capsule look together (eg)
Jacket
Skirt/trousers
Top
Shoes
Accessories; scarf, belt, bag, jewellery, hoisery

Now, keep the same jacket and skirt (or trousers) and introduce a different top, shoes and accessories. Here you can create a very different look by maintaining the frame of your outfit.
To, once again reinvent what you already have the basis of, keep the same skirt or trousers and top as before and introduce a different jacket or cardigan, shoes or boots and accessories.
A little forward planning is all it takes to keep you looking stylish and ultimately feeling better stepping out every morning.

Create 3 of these looks from your wardrobe or as many as your wardrobe will allow and see how far your newly reinvented looks will stretch!

Top Tips:
• Match your hoisery to your hemline (also good for leg lengthening)
• Spruce up last years oufits with accessories and a change of footwear.

Ugh-Ugh-Uggs!

Have we submerged into a nation of hap-hazard dressers? Living in our Ugg’s and accessorizing in tasseled scarves. Hair in a tousled mess and lipstick sales on the decrease, thrown together, if you will?
Or are we simply so uber stylish and comfortable in our confidence of knowledge that dressing down is dressing up?

Are Uggs hanging on by a thread this season?
Well it seems, our younger generation, at least, won’t be parting with them anytime soon.
I, myself am the latter side of twenty and with raised hands must admit I possess a pair of the Australian slipper made boot. I’m not sure, were these not given to me as a gift, would I have willingly made a trip to the shops to pick up a pair. That said, they are the ultimate in comfort and I am rarely seen out of them when the situation can allow for a slightly more versatile take on clothing.
The funny thing is, Australians, who cultivated this foot-wear, wouldn’t be caught dead outside of their houses in Uggs. They are strictly for indoors and think it odd and certainly not on trend with the fashion stakes to be donning the sheep skin boot outdoors.
Are we succumbing to comfort and poor fashion sense over our counterparts, be it in France, Italy or indeed Oz?

To satisfy, somewhat, the publics perspective on what’s hot and what’s not, I put it to some style savvy cast members from both Ragus and Dancing Thru The Ages.

The results showed:

UGGS – HOT or NOT?
Our gals voted NOT and although 90% were wearing Uggs unanimously agreed it’s time for change.
Our guys, with a split vote perhaps shows they’re not too bothered but interestingly had an opinion on how “ridiculously” high priced the Ugg boot is.

I then asked another few trend questions that needed satisfying:

SKINNY JEANS – HOT or NOT?
Gals– HOT
Guys– HOT

BALLET FLATS
Gals– HOT
Guys – HOT

FAKE TAN
Gals – HOT
Guys – NOT

FEATHER HEAD PIECES/HATS
Gals – NOT
Guys – HOT

And 65% of males and females prefer brunettes!…

So, should we say, hats off to the feathers, back to down under with the Uggs and is it about time we stopped faking it?!

Red on Red!

Can Redheads Wear Red?

For the most part of my life I was made to believe that as a redhead, some colours would take an allergic reaction to my perplexing flame like locks. Thankfully and in part to my training as a Colour Analyst I learned that this is simply not so.

I was asked about this recently and was a little miffed to hear that some still think it so. Now, there are boundaries to the type of red one can wear but then again there are whether you’re brunette or blonde also.

The key thing to know here is what category you fall under.
Is your colouring warm toned or cool toned?
People look out of harmony when they go against their natural colouring and for this you need to examine beyond hair. Skin & eye colour are a big part of determining your colours.

As a teenager, I was analyzed incorrectly. To take one look at me; I’m fair skinned, brown eyed and have red hair, I should have been an easy one, Autumnal, right? In fact, wrong. Until I went to do my training and came to know otherwise it was like everything fell into place when I was put into my light/bright Spring colours.

Wearing my Spring colours has had such an enormous impact on my life. In terms of us redheads wearing red, there is always going to be a shade of red that we can wear. For me, a warm red or a hot pink work very well with my colouring (eventhough I have red hair!)
A good example of a natural redhead looking radiant in red; Nicole Kidman at the 2007 Oscars and seen in the image here in a warm red to suit her complexion.

My advice: If you have not yet had a Personal Colour Analysis done then book in with a Colour Analyst in your area. In the long term this saves you so much money because you are not spending on “1 wear” items anymore and you have the confidence of knowing you look well in the colours you are wearing. The guess work is gone!

So flame it up fellow redheads and choose your shade of red!
