New York was a buzz last week for one of the most anticipated events of the year – Fashion Week!
NYC has always been a city of style but this week it really showed and more so than other visits I’ve made to NY. The style was creative, confident and laid back.
I spent a lot of my time in downtown, Soho, one of my favourite places within my favourite city and I was inspired by the everyday people going about their business in the most stylish and fashionable way!
There was a predominant boho-chic feel and it fit this area like an Autumn/Winter season McQueen glove!
Mixed fabrics, layers over leggings, high-waisted jeans, button-up retro blouses and very well executed accessories were on show on the streets of New York.
The difference I found from boho looks from the past is that this time the accessories are not being over-done and the whole look is a little more streamlined.
Wellies were a huge style staple but I’m not sure us Irish are ready to wear ours outside of festival season just yet! A great alternative evident this season is the riding boot.
There were fashion parties in every second store and the catwalk competitions and shows were in full flight!
New York always gives such a confidence boost. You can walk down the street wrapped in newspaper and be accepted for it. Like Japan, people in New York don’t apologize for their individual style and that is a liberating and marvelous thing. Something, perhaps us Irish should pay more heed to.
We too are a stylish nation but sometimes I think we don’t believe it.
Let’s start believing and loving our style again!
